Víctor Fernández picked the last four signings for this game, Sidnei will debut as Insua is injured. Cavaleiro will replace Fariña. Postiga will debut. The rival is having a positive start and wants to use the same strengths of last season.

Normally the debutants at Primera División end making a positive first season at the elite, and this SD Eibar is so far doing a nice job after defeating Real Sociedad and then suffering a narrow loss visiting Atlético Madrid. On this century three clubs have played for the first time at Primera and two of them made a solid first season. Actually, only 17 of the 48 clubs (35%) that since the beginning of la liga were making their debut at Primera ended suffering the relegation.

For the campaign 2004/05, Getafe CF debuted ending 13th and clinching the permanence without too many problems, for the season 2007/08, UD Almeria even did a better job and ended 8th, just eight points behind the European places.  The other side of the story was Xérez CD, team that ended at the last position during the campaign 2009/10 after only adding 34 points.

Another fact to have in mind that SD Eibar arrived to Primera after clinched two straight promotions, so this club was two years ago playing at Segunda B and now will try to achieve what Granada CF did on the season 2011/12: survive at Primera after clinching two straight promotions.

This is the sixth visit of Deportivo to the Ipurúa stadium. The only victory there for the Galicians was clinched on the Segunda tournament 1989/90: 0-1 with a goal scored by Sabin Bilbao. Last season they lost 1-2 there. Arruabarrena scored both goals for the Basques and Luis Fernández did it for Depor.

The four signings made during deadline day were picked for the game at Ipurúa, and coach Víctor Fernández announces changes at the lineup after re-watching the game against Rayo Vallecano. The Aragonian coach realized that he needs more balance at midfield and is ready to play with a more defensive choice in the sector, while he’s also making changes at defense and attack.

The main novelties are the debuts of centre-back Sidnei Rechel and striker Hélder PostigaSidnei has a secure spot at the starting formation due to the casualty of Pablo Insua (ankle injury). The Brazilian made 16 liga appearances on last Primera season with RCD Espanyol and is fit to play and ready to debut with Deportivo.

Meanwhile, Postiga is replacing Toché upfront. The Portuguese attacker has scored 26 goals in 85 Primera matches with Real Zaragoza and Valencia CF. He was the best man in the last friendly visiting Arousa after scoring a goal and providing an assist. The other two signings completed at the end of the summer market, fullback Juanfran Moreno and centre-back Modibo Diakité, will be on the bench.

Víctor won’t change the 4-3-3 figure, but will present four novelties at the starting eleven. Two of them are caused for injury reasons –the other injured player that’s causing a modification is Luis Fariña- German Lux is the starting keeper. Laureano Sanabria ‘Laure’ covers the right side of the defense, Roberto Canella performs on the left, while the central positions are for Albert Lopo and Sidnei.

Álex Bergantiños will play as a starter for the first time on the season. He’s the response to the search of balance by Víctor Fernández. The former captain of Depor B is joining José Rodriguez and Bosnian Haris Medunjanin at midfield territory. The wings are for Isaac Cuenca and Iván Cavaleiro, the latter is the replacement of Fariña and the fourth novelty at the lineup. Finally, José Verdú ‘Toché’ is the central attacker.

Together with Insua and Fariña, the other two players staying at the injury room are wingers Diogo Salomão and Lucas Pérez. The three players out due to tactical decisions are right-back Diego Seoane, centre midfielder Cezary Wilk and playmaker Juan Carlos.

The players commented during the week their expectations on this game; Laure says that they expect a tough game, ”We, the ones that met the field of Eibar on last year, know that they put a lot of pressure; they know how to use their resources and the concentration will be the key, mainly in secondary plays. The coach knows this too.”

Lopo was targeting to add the three points, ”Clearly these three points are very important. We know it’s a difficult match, playing in a stadium where there’s a lot of pressure, but it’s important to add, because later we face tough meetings.”

Lux was having the same feelings, “We want to keep competing and getting positive results. This is long and we know that we only have a point, so we know that a victory at Eibar could be very important, because later we have two complicate games. But to play at Eibar is also complicated as we are getting used to play together.”

List of picked players: (18) Lux, Fabricio (goalkeepers); Laure, Manuel Pablo, Juanfran, Lopo, Sidnei, Diakité, Luisinho, Canella (defenders); Álex Bergantiños, Juan Dominguez, José Rodríguez, Medunjanin, Cuenca (midfielders); Cavaleiro, Postiga & Toché (attackers)

Normally a recently promoted club makes a lot of changes at the moment of arriving at Primera División and these movements at the team frequently modify the playing style, but that isn’t happening with SD Eibar. Something that it’s surprising in a club with two promotions in two years.  Truly there were important changes at the team, after all 15 men left and 13 players were signed, but the tactics of coach Gaizka Garitano continue to be the same.

Eibar remain to be a block that prioritizes the defensive tasks and the pressure over the rival, though they don’t resign to surprise the rival with quick counterattacks. It’s the formula they used to end as the best defense at Segunda and the champion in the league, and now they try to do the same at Primera. So far it’s working out as they defeated high flyers Real Sociedad clinching a clean sheet and later gave a lot of problems to current champion Atlético Madrid to end losing with a meritorious 1-2.

To emphasize that Garitano is little by little adapting his squad and in the first two weeks he tried to keep the base of the team from last season, in this sense only four new signings were starters at the Calderón stadium. Perhaps the biggest difference is that their main resource in attack during the previous campaign, winger Jota, is gone and now the offensive moves are based in two men: veteran playmaker Mikel Arruabarrena and winger Javi Lara.

Arruabarrena is an experienced attacker that’s used as a playmaker and that on last season scored both goals in the 2-1 win over Depor at Ipurúa. Meanwhile, Javier Lara is a left winger signed for free coming from SD Ponferradina that’s already calling the attention after just two games. And to have a stronger attack the Basque club signed Ángel Rodríguez, the ex-Levante attacker pretended by Depor in the past, and Dejan Lekić, the Serbian was a last-minute signing and scored 12 goals in 36 Segunda appearances with Sporting Gijón during the past Segunda season.

So, this is a humble team, but with an important balance that could lead them to salvation. They kept the defensive strength and, despite losing their best attacker, now somehow look more dangerous thanks to their signings.

Garitano used the same 4-2-3-1lineup in the first two liga matches and, despite announcing possible changes during his press conference, it’s expected that he will repeat the team for a third time. There was a doubt in attack, Ángel has been the centre forward, but the arrival of Lekić was menacing his spot, however the Serbian wasn’t picked for the match.

Xabi Irureta is the starting keeper, Eneko Boveda covers the right-back position, Abraham Minero plays on the left, while the central positions at defense are for Raúl Navas and Raúl Albentosa.

Daniel Garcia and Jon Errasti, two players coming out from the academy of Real Sociedad, perform at midfield. Ander Capa attacks from the right wing, Javi Lara does it from the left, Arruabarrena is the playmaker and Ángel is the centre forward.

Defender Albentosa talked during the week and was optimistic with his team, ”I trust the players that stayed and trust the players that arrived. I don’t see ourselves inferior to any other team. We can face anyone. The team is doing a nice job at Primera just when fifteen months ago we were playing at Segunda B.”

Striker Ángel was talking of the previous interest of Deportivo when he was at Levante UD, ”There was interest, but not an offer. Nothing serious. Deportivo were really interested, but I chose staying as Joaquín Caparrós talked to me and convinced me to not leave. I appreciated it at the time and decided to stay. I don’t know if I was wrong, you never know, but now I’m in a new team and I’m hopeful.”

Arruabarrena understands that Depor could be a nervous team, ”They are a different team compared to past season. Maybe their playing style is more joyful. Before they were defending pretty well and this year it seems they want to play attractive football, it’s more open, with quality players that we also wanted. It’s a better team compared to last year. Now they have committed some mistakes and had a worse start compared to us, so they are nervous and we must take advantage of it.”

Abraham was warning of the difficulty of the game, ”The game against Deportivo will be tougher than the one against Atlético. We are equal teams and it will be hard to clinch something positive. It’s a game from our league and we must go out at the top. Depor have built up a new squad, but we must look at ourselves. We must continue growing, learning from our mistakes and keep on going.”

Finally, Capa was saying that his team must remain strong at Ipurúa, ”This is our fortress and the three points cannot escape from us facing a rival that has been reinforced with quality people.  It will be difficult, because the pace and the quality are higher on this league. We will use our weapons, which are the same of last year, in order to add a lot of points.”
