MATCHDAY 03: PERFECT MARK FOR BARCELONA

18 Sep 2014
Day and night for Real Madrid and FC Barcelona; the first one is living a little crisis and the second is having the best mark in this century. Meanwhile, Galicians RC Celta and Deportivo are having a positive start.

Only three games have been played in La Liga, but there are already some situations that are marking the big two clubs in Spain. FC Barcelona suffered hosting Athletic Bilbao, but the late goals of Neymar secured their third win in a row (2-0). The Catalans are the only team in the league with a perfect mark and also haven’t conceded goals yet.

It’s the first time on this century that a team wins the first three games without allowing goals; the last team that did this was Atlético Madrid (1991/92). Meanwhile, Real Madrid are living their first crisis after losing the Madrilenian derby against Atlético Madrid (1-2). It’s their second straight defeat and the first time since the season 2005/06 in which they lose two of the first three games.

Apart from Barca and Atlético, there are other four clubs that remain undefeated: Valencia CF, Sevilla CF, RC Celta and Granada CF.  It isn’t a surprise to see Valencia CF and Sevilla CF among the first places, the Valencians clinched a comfortable 3-1 win over RCD Espanyol at Mestalla, while the Andalusians clinched a 2-0 win over Getafe CF in what was a boring match with only a few scoring chances.

What’s surprising is to see RC Celta and Granada CF having a positive start. The Galicians, however, didn’t have a tasteful weekend, they were leading Real Sociedad 2-0 by minute 70 playing at Balaídos, but for the second straight week the Basques rescued a two-goal disadvantage to end clinching a 2-2 draw. More enjoyable was the point added by Granada CF in the goalless home draw before Villarreal CF, because their rival had more scoring chances.

Meanwhile, Deportivo and Elche CF jumped at the standings after clinching their first win on the season. Both sides won playing away from home, the Galicians did it beating SD Eibar at Ipurúa (0-1) and the Valencians surprised Rayo Vallecano at Estadio de Vallecas in the game with more goals on this matchday (2-3).
