MATCHDAY 11: ONLY A FEW GOALS

10 Nov 2014
Only 19 goals were scored during the weekend, it’s the lowest number on this season. Real Madrid and Barca move forward before the failures of Atlético, Sevilla and Valencia. Depor is in the long list of teams fighting at the bottom.

8 of the 20 clubs at Primera were unable to score a goal and there were three goalless draws, which explains the reason why only 19 goals were scored on matchday 11. It’s the lowest mark on this season tied with matchday 06. And that taking in mind that Real Madrid scored five times beating Rayo Vallecano (5-1). It’s the 8th straight win for Los Blancos and they remain at the top.

FC Barcelona returned to winning ways, but it was a tough mission as they were losing 1-0 at minute 70 visiting UD Almeria, in the end they rescued the game with goals from Neymar and Jordi Alba (1-2). The Catalans are now the runners-up.

The other teams that were inside the European zone suffered setbacks. The big losers were Valencia CF and Atlético Madrid. The Valencians were reduced to a 0-0 draw hosting Athletic Club Bilbao, while Atlético Madrid suffered their second loss on the season visiting relegation-troubled Real Sociedad (2-1).

Neither Sevilla CF seized the situation as the Andalusians could only get a 1-1 draw hosting Levante UD. The equalizer by Víctor Casadesús came at minute 80. Villarreal CF and RC Celta also were unable to win. The Galicians could only get a goalless draw hosting Granada CF and the Valencians allowed a late goal and only added a point visiting RCD Espanyol (1-1).

The only club that took advantage of the situation was Malaga CF. They got a 2-1 win over SD Eibar thanks to a last-minute penalty scored by Amrabat, it’s their fifth straight victory and now they are in European seats for the first time since matchday 01.

Córdoba CF remain as the only winless team in la liga after only adding a point despite playing for an hour before a ten-man Deportivo. It’s the first time since 2009 in which a Primera outfit spends eleven matchdays without winning a match.

Elche CF returned to the drop zone despite a suffered 0-0 draw visiting Getafe CF. It’s a very tight situation among the last places, because only three points are separating 11th place Athletic Club and penultimate spot Levante UD.
