Both coaches want to end the year with a good result. Depor’s manager believes that his team is growing and hopes to avoid injuries in 2015. Villarreal’s coach was warning of Deportivo’s counterattacks.

Marcelino García Toral is living his best stage as a football coach, which is remarkable as he started his career in 1998. The Asturian man was successful at Segunda helping to achieve the promotion to the elite with Recreativo de Huelva (2006) and Real Zaragoza (2009), but at the same time failed at Primera coaching Sevilla CF and the same Real Zaragoza.

In January of 2013 he landed at Villarreal CF and his career gained stability; he earned the promotion to Primera with the yellow submarine, the third on his career, and one year later his team ended sixth, which is a great success for a recently promoted club. Currently his Villarreal remain alive in all the fronts, passing the group stage in the UEFA Europa League, passing the round in Copa and living in European seats in liga.

This is his fourth liga meeting against Víctor Fernández. The previous three confrontations took place at Primera División and ended in draws. Two took place on the season 2006/07 when Víctor was coaching Real Zaragoza and Marcelino was working with Recreativo, one campaign later there was 1-1 between Zaragoza and Racing Santander, the latter coached by Marcelino.

Depor’s coach didn’t offer a press conference before the game, this since the team travelled directly from Malaga to Vila-real. What the club did was to tape the opinion of Víctor about this match during the press conference for the Copa clash. So, the coach’s opinion on Villarreal was made before the elimination in Copa.

The Aragonian man talked for five minutes and analyzed the virtues of the rival, “For me Villarreal is one of the most attractive teams in la liga, because it’s a team that gathers a lot of talent on the field. It’s a team with fast transitions, very direct in all the things they do. Their players have a similar profile in a tactical level, and you have to add a competitive character that’s very important. They only allow a few goals, actually they are dragging four games without conceding and also a good series of results. “

“Later they have the merit of been competing in three tournaments, having possibilities in all of them and a large squad that’s rich in alternatives. Their coach know what they are doing and surely it is a nice mirror to look yourself.” He added about the issue.

Despite the difficulty of the task, the coach is hopeful of a positive result, “We are conscious that this is a complicate adventure, very difficult, but we have our options. In the end it’s a matter of eleven men against eleven men and they have the label of the favorite for been playing at home and for been disputing European competitions, but we are team that must continue playing with confidence and especially assuming risks that will allow us to reach the opposite goal. It’s the last game of the year and let’s see if we can have good news to close a period of very agitated months.”

He was asked if he believes that the team is growing in the season and the respond was, “About feelings and sensations yes, about results, we have to improve them. I believe that we won on Monday as we were following a good path, an ascending lane with more confidence and scoring chances, though it has been hard to create them. Now we have to demonstrate it against an important team like Villarreal. In the end the results are the thing that will bring better feelings, but for that we must leave good sensations on the field.”

Finally, Víctor Fernández expressed his wishes for the new year, “There’s a good environment in the changing room. The team has been intense and there’s solidarity. I just ask to be respected by the injuries. It has been terrifying on this year. I just hope to have healthy players, also a nice gift for the winter window, because I can see that the president is doing a great effort trying to balance the squad. Then the team is more integrated and playing with more confidence, which invites us to be optimistic.”

Villarreal’s coach addressed the media on Friday’s afternoon. He’s currently satisfied with the run of his team in all the competitions, “It’s hard to ask for more, because I believe we are above the demands. We must follow this path as the team has demonstrates some values. Let’s hope we can win this game to close the year and not like 2013, time when we lost before Sevilla. Now we want to leave with a good taste in the mouth.”

“It won’t be easy. We must fight at the top, because Deportivo will demand a lot from us. Let’s see if we have a good day and if with the help of the fans we can achieve a victory. Their participation in the game is also important.” He added.

The Asturian coach was talking of the rival, “Deportivo usually create problems to the rivals in attack. They create danger and they were able to beat Valencia. So, we must be prudent as they can change the way of playing and are dangerous in the counterattack. If we lower our limit, then any team can complicate the situation.”

He’s not thinking of ending the year fourth, one of the possible consequences in case of winning the meeting, “It will be anecdotal. This game has a lot of incentives, because it could be seen how we are capable of continuing to be a competitive squad. When you are able to beat a great opponent then you have continuity and can certify a mental strength that’s important.”

The coach is satisfied as Gio Dos Santos is back and joins a group of attackers that’s living a great moment, “The bigger the competence the better for the team. The complicate thing would be to have the four attackers living a bad moment. It’s would have a clear influence in the results, because they are the ones scoring the goals.”

Finally, Marcelino commented the good moment lived by winger Moi Gómez, “Moi is a young lad and could be living a takeoff about his maturity. We must wait a little more, but the feeling is that he’s making a giant step. He has been really important within the last games.”
