The club announced on Monday that 20-year-old Saúl García is the first reinforcement for the season 2015/16. The left-back will play loaned at Racing until the end of the season and later will join Depor.

The winter window is about to open its doors, but Deportivo already completed the first signing for the next transfer period. On Monday the club announced the signing of left-back defender Saúl García Cabrero. The 20-year-old player is coming from Racing Santander, club where he will play loaned until the end of the current Segunda campaign and will later join Depor with a four-year-contract.

Saúl is a promising product of Racing’s youth system; he debuted with the first team on last year when he was 18 playing 30 games at Segunda B (1,917 minutes). He scored his lonely goal with the Cantabrian outfit in the 3-3 draw before Guijuelo.

He was also a starter in the successful Copa campaign that led Racing to eliminate Sevilla CF and UD Almeria until falling before Real Sociedad in the quarterfinals. On the current Segunda campaign the Cantabrian defender has been a regular starter and completed 18 league appearances.

However, his performance has been criticized lately. Racing are completing a mediocre season at Segunda and currently lie in relegation, Saúl has been criticized for his defensive errors and also for not showing the same potential of last year. Still, he’s considered as an interesting prospect that was chased by Real Betis, Sevilla CF and Villarreal CF.

The player was ending his amateur contract in June and Racing’s officials feared the player was going to leave for free. But Depor appeared in the picture and negotiated a transfer –the fee hasn’t been announced, but the rumor is that Depor are paying €200,000- That’s why the operation was announced three days before the end of the year.
