Georgios Tzavellas is now the main option to reinforce the centre of the defense after the possibility to sign Ivan Ramis is no longer possible. The club expects to close the operation on Thursday.

Iván Ramis won’t join Deportivo after Wigan Athletic will not let him go. The intention of the Galician club was to see the Spaniard cancelling his contract and then signing for Depor, but the Lactics aren’t opened to that possibility and Depor had to search for other options.

Now, the main option to reinforce Deportivo is Georgios Tzavellas (27, PAOK FC). The Greek is a left-back defender that recently has been used as a centre-back at his former club. He isn’t counting for coach Angelos Anastasiadis and Depor already contact his club in order to negotiate a loan lasting until June.

Tzavellas has to leave PAOK as the Greek club has signed ex-Valencia Ricardo Costa (they were also negotiating with ex-Depor Modibo Diakité). On this season he has played 11 official games with the Dikefalos tou Vorra, 4 of them with the Europa League. He was part of the Greek team that played the last FIFA World Cup, though he didn’t play any minute.

Depor have an additional spot available at the first team and coach Víctor Fernández said during the last weekend that the club is going to try to fill the space with a defensive player. The winter market closes its doors on Friday midnight, so Depor only have one day to close the negotiation.  According to reports from A Coruña the deal is about to be signed.
