Deportivo will face UE Llagostera in the last-32 round of Copa Del Rey. It’s the first meeting against the Catalan side playing in any official competition. Both legs will be played in December.

On Friday, the draw for the last-32 round of Copa Del Rey was held in Madrid. The big novelty for this season is that each round will have its particular draw, while on past editions the two keys until the final game were fixed since the first draw. This means that, after this round ends, there will another draw for the last-16 round and so on until the semifinals.

The rival for Deportivo in this round is Segunda club UE Llagostera, a club from Girona that’s currently competing at Segunda División. The first leg will be played at the Nou Estadi de Palamós on December 2/3 and the returning leg will be disputed at the Riazor on December 16/17. They play at the Nou Estadi de Palamós (capacity for 3,724 spectators) because their home ground, Estadi Municipal de Llagostera, can only welcome 1,500 spectators, too low according to the LFP criteria

UE Llagostera was one of the surprises on last season as they were close to the promotion zone during the last part of the Segunda tournament, but on the current Segunda campaign the team coached by Lluís Carrillo is having a poor start after losing 5 of the 7 matches disputed so far, for this reason they are currently the penultimate place at the standings, though in the previous round they eliminated Real Zaragoza playing at La Romareda (1-2).

The Catalan club, with the official name of Unión Esportiva Llagostera since 1989, was founded in 1947, but this is the first official confrontation between them and Deportivo. What happens is that they have been playing in lower leagues (in 1997 they were playing in the 9th tier of Spanish football) and it was until last season that they were able to reach Segunda.

Coach Víctor Sánchez addressed the media on Friday, but he didn’t want to say too much about the result of the draw: “A lot still ahead and there will be time to talk about it. I have watched some games, because I follow Lugo due to my friend Luis Milla. I watched the game Llagostera-Lugo and we already have some information.”

The last-32 round in Copa:
Cádiz-Real Madrid
Reus-Atlético Madrid
UD Logroñés-Sevilla
Balompédica Linense-Athletic Club
Betis-Sporting Gijón
Las Palmas-Real Sociedad
