An apathetic Depor advance to the next round in a game that was only interesting in the second half. Llagostera only created danger in the final fifteen minutes and tied the game from the penalty spot.

Manuel Pablo was making his debut on the season performing at the right side of the defence. The other novelty was to see Pedro Mosquera at midfield and Jonathan Rodriguez in attack. Coach Víctor Sánchez was presenting a 4-2-3-1 formation.

Manu was the goalkeeper, Manuel Pablo covered the right side in defence, Saul García performed on the left, with Róber Suárez and Alberto Lopo were covering the central positions. Mosquera and Juan Dominguez were the centre midfielders, Haris Medunjanin was the playmaker, Luis Alberto attacked from the right wing, Miguel Cardoso did it from the left and Jonathan was the centre forward.

At UE Llagostera, coach Oriol Alsina presented the expected formation with some variants, but with David Querol plus Brazilians Givanildo Pulgas ‘Giva’ and Thiago Rodrigues ‘Mosquito’ as the references in attack.

With both Llagostera and Deportivo focused in their league tasks, the second-leg in Copa turned to be boring and only an obligation. Depor never felt the hurry to search for the rival and spent the whole first part passing the ball without doing any harm. Worse was the situation for the Catalans, because they didn’t complete any shot no matter they needed goals to pass the tie.

Nothing special occurred within the first ten minutes. Depor were having the ball possession, but later the locals were unable to create any harm. In the case of Llagostera, they were holding at the back zone and later were attempting to release quick counterattacks searching for Mosquito.

The first goal opportunity came at minute 11 and it was for Deportivo, it was a cross by Saúl that was cleared by the defence, the ball reached the path of Juan Dominguez, who released a volley that went over the crossbar.

Soon the game became boring; Depor were making easy passes at midfield, but later neither Cardoso nor Luis Alberto were creating anything in attack, while the visiting side was barely stepping into the attacking half.

The next chance for Depor came at minute 23, Luis Alberto released an accurate cross from the left and Jonathan headed the ball at the far post, but it went over the crossbar.  At minute 28, a counterattack for Llagostera ended with a cross by Junto that Róber cleared to corner-kick. That was their lonely approximation in the half. Fabril's Róber made a serious, always attentive to cut up the danger.

Jonathan continued wasting chances, at minute 33 the Uruguayan was unable to control the ball properly in a counterattack in which he was entering the area. But at least he was appearing, because the rest of attacking players seemed to be asleep. It was the picture until minute 30, because later Luis Alberto started to show up.

The first shot on target came at minute 36, Juan Dominguez assisted Luis Alberto, who entered the area and attempted to score with a drilling attempt, but visiting goalie Nico Ratti cleared the danger to corner-kick. Four minutes later the same Luis Alberto collected a cross from Cardoso and attempted a curved shot that passed close to the far post.

Unexpected development in the second part; Depor finally pressed and found a goal, and when things seemed under control there was a penalty that left Llagostera close to tie the series, suddenly the Catalans grew in the game, but only had one more chance to send the game to extra time.

The final part started with a cross by Manuel Pablo that was looking for Jonathan, but a defender cleared the danger to corner-kick (47’). At minute 54, Medunjanin had an attempt in a direct free-kick, and Ratti made the save.

The game continued the same path of the first half: The pace was low and the game was boring. Depor were looking more dangerous, but weren’t pressing for the goal. Meanwhile, Llagostera had a couple of approximations, but they didn’t complete any shot within the first 60 minutes.

And suddenly the game changed. Depor pressed the accelerator starting at minute 63, first Jonathan made a solo play on the left side of the area and his drilling attempt was saved by Ratti. One minute later Luis Alberto fired from the edge of the area and again the Argentine goalie made the save.

At minute 65, a long ball looking for Mosquito was close to leave the Brazilian alone before Manu, but Róber arrived on time and the attacker fired wide. With these opportunities the tide was changing as the game was becoming more interesting.

The first change at Depor was the entry of Cartabia for Cardoso, who was dragging a muscle injury. And then Depor found the goal, Medunjanin attempted a shot that hit Jorge and went over the bar, in the resulting corner-kick Luis Alberto released a cross from the left that Juan Dominguez sent into the back of the net with a downward header.

The game was under control and Fajr replaced Mosquera, until this point the Catalans had only completed two shots in the game, but things radically changed. At minute 73, Querol picked a long and high pass coming from midfield, he fired into the near post of Manu, who made a great save.

Five minutes later it came the equalizer after Juan Dominguez fouled Querol inside the area, Jordi López tied the game from the spot and surprisingly Llagostera were only one goal away of sending the tie to extra time.  There were nerves at the stands, but the score wasn’t going to change.

Llagostera started to press, though their only clear chance was a volley from Monsquito that missed the target (84’). Depor were scared, but continued attacking. Fabril’s Óscar Garcia debuted with the first team replacing Luis Alberto and made interesting moves on the left wing, the best chance to score in this frame was a direct free-kick by Fajr saved by Ratti (82’)

Apathetic game by Deportivo; the Galicians seemed asleep and only pressed in a frame of ten minutes in the second part, time when they scored. Later Llagostera found a penalty, but didn’t have more football to send the tie to extra time. Depor advance to the last-16 round for the first time in five years. The draw takes place on Friday.

Now Deportivo return to la liga competition and will end 2015 with two more games, the next one is the visit of SD Eibar to the Riazor (Saturday, 22h05 CET).
