Deportivo want to return to winning ways and coach Víctor Sánchez has to make important decisions for the game, starting with who should be the starting keeper.

Monday’s game against Rayo Vallecano is marked by the decisions that Víctor Sánchez has to make regarding the lineup. Until Saturday he hadn’t tested any formation for the game (he just mixed normal starters with substitutes and Fabril’s players), which invites to think that he isn’t planning to switch the 4-4-2.

Still, there are two important decisions that he has to make in the coming hours. The first one is who will be the starting keeper. German Lux is suspended and the spot is disputed by Manu Fernández and Stipe Pletikosa.

Both men have only played a handful number of games within the last twelve months, Manu has only played in Copa on this season and seems to be the main alternative as, while Pletikosa found some problems to adapt to the pace of the team. The coaching staff gave him some minutes in midweek’s friendly between Fabril and Racing Ferrol.

The other decision is who could play on the right wing, Cani skipped Saturday’s session due to a back problem and the doctors will decide on Sunday if he is able to compete. He was a starter against Valencia CF and now the position is open. Fede Cartabia is also pending to receive the medical okay, though it isn’t probable that he will be ready to be a starter.

In case that Cani is not fit to play, then Víctor has plenty of options. From just replacing the position with another player like Cartabia (if he is fit to play), to make several readjustments like advancing the positon of Juanfran with Laure performing as the right-back, or to switch Fayçal Fajr to the right flank allowing the appearance of Jonás Gutiérrez on the left.
