Deportivo B are ending the season at the third position. In the last game the lads seized the counterattack and clinched a victory that wasn’t necessary as the rival for the third spot, CD Choco, lost its game.

Coach Manu Mosquera used centre-back Róber despite he played one day before against Real Madrid. Goalkeeper David Gómez returned after traveling with the first team to Vila-real, while Canadian Sam Piette was available after his suspension. Pancho, Iago López, Ángel and Jorge were out injured. Hugo Rama was suspended.

The draw was a 4-2-3-1, Anxo Pérez was the keeper, Blas Alonso was playing at the right side in defense, Lucas Viña performed on the left, the centre-backs were Quique Fornos and Róber. Sam Piette and Pol Calvet were the centre midfielders, Marcos Legaz was the right winger, Álex Corredera was the playmaker, Óscar García attacked from the left flank, and Juan Otero was the centre forward.

CD As Pontes were playing for nothing as they were already saved. Still, coach Pablo López was presenting a lineup with his best men, including striker Santi Fernández, playmaker Óscar Martinez and ex-Depor B winger Cañi.

Fabril were the best team in the game thanks to the deadly counterattack. Depor’s lads had more opportunities and claimed the advantage twice in the first half, in the second they spent the time protecting a result that was granting the third place.

Things started well for the visiting team as Fabril scored the first goal in the first opportunity in the game. Juan Otero picked the ball at the right wing and began a fast counterattack that ended with the Colombian entering the area and crossing local goalie Marcos Souto for his 17th goal on the season.

CD As Pontes were only reaching the visitors’ area in set-pieces actions, while Fabril seemed closer to the second goal thanks to the counterattack. At minute 9, Otero assisted Legaz inside the area, but he missed the one-on-one action with Souto.

Five minutes later the same Legaz attempted from the edge of the area and his shot was cleared by Souto. In the resulting corner-kick the local keeper cleared the danger after a secondary play in which Legaz was searching for Óscar.

Then Pol Calvet had two chances to score with mid-distance volleys that were blocked by Souto (17’ & 20’). And just when the second goal seemed near, CD As Pontes scored the equalizer in their first attack in the game. Cañi released a high cross from the left and Pablo Ramos appeared at the goal line to head the ball past David Gómez.

After the goal the game became more equal and the locals were close to score in a free-kick that was cleared at the last second by Piette (29’). And three minutes later Fabril were going to find the second goal, again in a counterattack. Róber released a long throw from the defence and Blas Alonso ran without opposition until reaching the right corner of the area, then he chipped the ball past Otero. It’s the first goal for the right-back on the season.

For the second half the pace was lower and Fabril preferred to defend the result. Taboada, Jardel and Juan López entered the field and Fabril had two more chances to score. At minute 75, a cross from Blas was about to end in an own goal of Chote, but the ball hit the post. Three minutes later Jardel missed a one-one action with Souto. Fabril were about to pay a high price for not ending the game before, because Rubén Pardo was close to score the equalizer, but his shot missed the target (90+2’).

Depor B closed the season with its 19th victory, which means that it won the half of the games played. The counterattack sealed three points that weren’t necessary as CF Choco ended losing. Fabril end third at the standings and will play the promotion playoff to Segunda B. The rival is El Palmar CF. The first-leg will be played this weekend at Abegondo.
