Squad news

New defeat for Deportivo, but at least this time the team left a decent impression facing one of the big clubs in the league. Depor have only scored three goals in the first six games of the liga campaign, the worst mark since 1966.

The seven notes from the game Vs. Atlético Madrid

1- The novelties refreshed the squad: The feelings were negative before the game, this impression was reinforced after coach Garitano rested normal starters like Juanfran and Mosquera. It seemed that he was preferring to focus the attention in the next game with Sporting Gijón, but it turned out that the modifications brought fresh air to a team that was tired. Before the game the coach announced that the team needed these rotations and truly the entry of players like Guilherme and Laure renewed the spirit of a team in the middle of a negative streak.

2- Positive impression at the Calderón: Depor have only added one of the last twelve points in dispute, but it cannot be denied that this was the best game of Depor among the last four meetings and it was in the most complicate scenario, before a candidate for all the titles.

And it’s that Deportivo were always in the game as long as the Galicians had eleven men on the pitch, the visiting team had things under control and only suffered in punctual moments. Everything changed in the second part with the expulsion of Fajr, at that moment Depor didn’t knew how to manage the local pressure and it was at the mercy of Atlético. The goal killed the game, but Deportivo even had a last chance to tie a game. As Garitano has stated during the week, despite the three losses suffered so far, Depor have always been in the games until the end.

3- Scoreless: The negative thing is that Deportivo have only scored three goals in this start of season, it ended scoreless in four of the six matches played so far. This is the worst mark at the club since the campaign 1966/67, at the time the Galicians have only scored one goal after the first six matchdays.

4- Laure was the player with more touches: Despite the modifications there was one thing that didn’t change: a fullback was once again the player with more touches. In two of the past two games it was Juanfran the player with more touches, now it was his substitute: Laure. The captain touched the ball in 59 opportunities reinforcing the idea that Depor put the weight of the game on the right side of the defence, something that includes the transitions defence-attack.

5- The substitutions didn’t work: The novelties at the starting team might have refreshed the team, but the changes made throughout the ninety minutes didn’t work. Once again Garitano left the feeling of not guessing right with the substitutions. Mosquera never improved the good game of Guilherme. Andone was replaced when the score was 0-0, but ten minutes later the goal arrived and Depor had to use the third change putting again a forward on the pitch (Ryan Babel).

6- Çolak was the best man: Emre Çolak was for the second straight opportunity the best man for Depor, at least the one with the brighter ideas to move the ball. His short passes and dribbles with and without the ball were fresh air for the team. He completed the half of the eight shots made by Depor in the game and also had a shot on target.

7- First red card on the season: Fayçal Fajr represents the first red card saw by Depor on this season, it’s the first expulsion at the Blanquiazul side since the red card saw by Borges on matchday 36 of the previous campaign (0-2 Vs. Getafe, May 1).
