MATCHDAY 21: INCOMPLETE

08 Feb 2017
Unusual matchday in la liga after the two games to be played in Galicia were suspended due to the weather. Granada CF won for the first time, while FC Barcelona approached to the top.

Only eight games were disputed in matchday 21, Deportivo and RC Celta were playing at home, but the weather conditions in Galicia caused some problems at the Riazor and Balaídos, and with the orange alert still on, the games were postponed.

Real Madrid weren’t happy as they were unable to face RC Celta and only watched how FC Barcelona reduced the difference with the leaders to one point after their 3-0 win over Athletic Club. Sevilla CF remain third despite they were only able to get a 0-0 draw hosting Villarreal CF.

Atlético Madrid dispatched CD Leganés with a 2-0 score, while Real Sociedad starred the most exciting game in the matchday after they came from behind to beat CA Osasuna (3-2). SD Eibar continued with its progression and trashed Valencia CF at Mestalla (0-4). The Basques have won 3 of their last 4 games in liga.

The situation at the top of the standings:

place team points GF GA
1 Real Madrid 46 51 17
2 Barcelona 45 55 18
3 Sevilla 43 43 28
4 Atlético 39 36 16
5 Real Sociedad 38 34 30
6 Villarreal 35 28 14
7 Eibar 32 32 29
8 Espanyol 32 29 27

That big loss by Valencia CF provoked a curious scenario: Deportivo advanced one position even without playing, the reason is that both teams have the same points and now Los Ches have a worse goal difference.

Málaga CF remain in danger as they were surprised by RCD Espanyol (0-1). The Andalusians have now lost 5 of their last 6 league meetings. Granada CF were the big winners as they conquered their second victory on the season: 1-0 Vs. UD Las Palmas.  They are leaving now the last place, while Sporting Gijón complete the drop zone after a new loss, this time hosting Deportivo Alavés (2-4).

The situation at the bottom of the standings:

place team points GF GA
16 Valencia 19 29 40
17 Leganés 18 15 35
18 Sporting 13 22 43
19 Granada 13 17 44
20 Osasuna 10 23 46

MATCHDAY 22: VISITS FOR THE LEADERS
