The victory of Sporting Gijón at CD Leganés is reducing the distance among the clubs fighting to survive, while the first five places won their matches during the weekend.

Matchday 22 witnessed how the first five places were able to win their matches. Real Madrid suffered a bit, but ended adding the three points visiting CA Osasuna (1-3). Easier was the success of FC Barcelona at Deportivo Alavés (0-6), which is also the biggest home loss for the Basques playing at Primera División.

Sevilla CF returned to winning ways, though they had to wait until minute 80 to get a 0-1 win at UD Palmas, this was the first defeat for the Canarians at home. Atlético Madrid came back twice and won an exciting game against RC Celta (3-2). Real Sociedad also won and remain in Europe: 1-2 at RCD Espanyol.

Meanwhile, Villarreal CF remain sixth despite they only managed to get a 1-1 draw hosting Málaga CF. SD Eibar approached the European zone after an easy 4-0 win over Granada CF.  Athletic Club also approached the first six places after a comeback against Deportivo (2-1).

Sporting Gijón got a valuable 0-2 win visiting CD Leganés, now the Asturians are only two points below the safety and they were the big winners on this matchday as Los Rojiblancos were the only ones that won during the weekend.  Valencia CF remain in danger as they only got a 0-0 draw at Real Betis.

Deportivo will search for a reaction at home as they host Deportivo Alavés. The Galicians are now only three points above the pit, though still having the pending game with Real Betis. Meanwhile the leaders face accessible meetings, with Real Madrid hosting RCD Espanyol and FC Barcelona doing the same with CD Leganés.
