Riera has rescinded the year left on his contract. He didnít convince in his two stages at Depor and neither during his loan spell at CA Osasuna.

The club announced on Tuesday that Oriol Riera has rescinded his contract with Deportivo. He was still having one more season after failing to convince twice before and after a not so positive year loaned at CA Osasuna.

The Catalan landed at Deportivo for the winter window of the season 2014/15. After debuting against Levante UD on matchday 18, he played in all the 19 matches of the second round (only Fabricio did the same). The style of Depor changed with him on board, because he helped a lot in the aerial game and created secondary plays. The problem is that he failed too much inside the area, just to remember the incredible opportunity that he missed at the Riazor in the derby against RC Celta, goal that would have meant the equalizer (Depor lost 0-2 in the end). He managed to score foul goals, but only one of those goals meant a point for Depor (1-1 Vs. Malaga CF). He also brought an assist in the 2-2 draw visiting Real Sociedad.

One season later, he was the main victim of the fact that both Lucas and Luis Alberto were the perfect couple in attack. He was pushed to a secondary role and ended to be the player with more entries coming out from the bench (15). He neither gave motives to think that he deserved more minutes, because the striker didnít convince too much with his performances as he wasnít scoring goals. He only scored twice and one of those goals was the only one netted by a substitute during the season (At Sevilla, April 17).

And then he was loaned to CA Osasuna for the season that has just ended. Despite Lucas Pťrez was leaving, the sporting direction didnít want him, The Catalan liked this option as he played there in the past and the fans liked him. But this wasnít the season for CA Osasuna, the Navarrans demonstrated not to be prepared for the elite and spent the major part of the liga campaign in relegation. Riera had a lot of minutes, and despite some injury cases, he was the 11th player with more minutes at the squad, but at the same time the striker demonstrated the same flaws witnessed at Depor: he only scored four goals (plus providing an assist) and his shot accuracy was only of 47%.

Oriol Riera is the second player under contract that leaves the club during the summer window, at the end of last week it was confirmed the transfer of defender Pablo Insua to the Bundesliga.
