Deportivo and Aston Villa FC have reached a new agreement for the loan of winger/playmaker Carles Gil. The deal includes a buyout option. He will join the trainings on Thursday.

Carles Gil returns to Deportivo, on Wednesday the club announced that it had reached a new agreement with Aston Villa for the loan of the winger/playmaker. He will play at Depor until the end of the season 2017/18.

The club didn’t inform of the existence of a buyout option, but journalist Fran Hermida from Radio Cadena Ser reported that an option to buy the player was included. Later the chairman and owner of Aston Villa FC, Toni Xia, tweeted that it’s a loan with a mandatory buyout option at the end of the season. The amount wasn’t revealed.

The Valencian already completed the medicals and will join the trainings on Thursday. Both, Garitano and Pepe Mel, said during last season that Gil was a different player, one that can mark the differences. The true is that he had a difficult adaptation. By the end of November he had only played four times and didn’t see comfortable on the pitch. But the player gave a step forward in December and became a fixed starter on the right wing, and sometimes performed as a playmaker.

It was then that Gil demonstrated his skills, his vision on the field and assists turned to be important and ended the season having the third best pass ratio at the team (85.3%). A groin injury reduced his presence in the lineups in 2017, but ended the campaign scoring a goal against Las Palmas (May 20).

Carles Gil the fifth signing of Deportivo for the campaign 2017/18. Previously the club secured the signing of Argentine playmaker Fede Cartabia, plus centre midfielders, Guilherme dos Santos and Fede Valverde, while only hours before it had announced the arrival of right-back Gerard Valentín.
