A NEW BRAZILIAN IN DEPOR?

24 Dec 2006
The long list of Argentineans that Deportivo is studying in order to reinforce the striking position has a new member, but this time the name is coming from another country: Brazil. Sportpaper AS informed that the club's officials are following R??mulo Marques Antoneli, a Gremio striker that scored 11 goals in the last championship in his country.

R??mulo Marques Antoneli (24) is a tall striker (height = 1.90m) that has been praised for his aerial game. He has also played in Europe. R??mulo started his career in Botafogo in the year 2002 and later he signed for Ituano, a second division club in Brazil. He scored 17 goals in 31 matches with Ituano and called the attention of the scouts.

Ituano's officials arranged a six months loan spell with a Bundesliga's club, FSV Mainz 05. In this way he travelled to Europe for the season 2005/2006, but R??mulo never got used to the German football. He had a poor performance there and wasn't able to score a goal in eight matches. He returned to his country in 2006 and was sent on a new loan operation to Gremio, one of the most popular clubs in the country.

In Gremio, R??mulo started to shine again and scored 11 goals in 26 games during the last campaign. Gremio has a buyout clause for €564,000, the main problem is that R??mulo is upset with his former club, Ituano, and has been maintaining a legal battle in order to obtain his freedom. Supposedly, the resolution will be ready in January and if he wins this case in the court, he will be free to negotiate his future.

Sportpaper AS wrote yesterday that Deportivo is one of the clubs that are interested in R??mulo, the paper talked with the agent of the Brazilian striker, Andre Cury. He confirmed the interest of Depor: "Yes, that possibility has came to us, and we have to study it." This was the response of Cury to a question related to the interest of the Galician club in the Brazilian striker.

In this way, Deportivo's officials continue in the quest for a reinforcement in the striking zone. So far six Argentineans and one Paraguayan have been mentioned as possible targets: Mariano Pavone (24), Gonzalo Bergessio (22), Marco Gast??n Rub?n (20), Mauro Z??rate (19), Fernando Cavenaghi (23), Cristian Fabbiani (23) and Oscar Cardozo (23). Now the addition of the Brazilian R??mulo is increasing the number of alternatives to eight. Choices that Caparr??s and Lendoiro will have to analyse during the next days.

PROBLEMS WITH SOME OF THE YOUNGSTERS
At the beginning of the season, the club decided to loan out ten youngsters that Caparr??s had in order to begin his project, a decision that was taken because they were needing more chances to progress. These players were Ian Mackay, Rub?n Castro, Momo, Antonio Tom??s, Carlos Alc??ntara, Xisco, Pablo Amo, Guirado, Carlos Pita and Iv??n Carril.

Almost all of them have been enjoying good opportunities in their new squads, and even some of them like Xico (Vecindario), Rub?n (N??stic) and Pita (Logro?es) are the sensations in their teams. But there are three cases that aren't enjoying positive results: Iv??n Carril (Vecindario), Guirado (Vecindario) and Ian Mackay (Ceuta). These three players aren't counting for their respective coaches and it has been informed that Depor might try to recuperate them in January. The problem is that there aren't vacancies in the first squad, and Caparr??s would have to search for a new destination for these three youngsters, it's a new and difficult task for the club's officials.
