A Depor full of internal problems is traveling to Valencia without Lucas Pérez and Fede Valverde. The rival is full of casualties.

Referee: David Medié Jiménez
Kick-off: 18h30 CET (Estadio De La Cerámica)

Villarreal CF might be fighting at the top of the standings, but their current form is among the worst ones in la liga. The Valencians won the last two games, but previously chained three straight defeats. So, they have only added 7 of the last 18 points in dispute (8th worst mark in the period).

Worse is the situation for Deportivo, the Galicians have only added four points within the last six games, this is the worst mark in la liga. A curiosity at this height in the competition is that Villarreal CF have added more points on the road (14) than at Estadio De La Cerámica (13). Only other four clubs present the same behavior: FC Barcelona, Atlético Madrid, FC Girona and Athletic Club.

Depor have suffered in the recent visits to Villarreal CF, the Galicians chained five straight losses between 2007 and 2015, but in the last two they got positive results, curiously Depor are facing Villarreal CF in the penultimate matchday for the third straight opportunity, for the season 2015/16 Depor added a 0-2 win that secured the permanence, while on last season it was the same story as the goalless draw in Castellón secured one more year at the elite.

The humiliating defeat in the Galician derby left a big scar that still haunting the club, the team is currently in relegation and the discomfort among the fans was the last nail that pushed sporting director Richard Barral to leave the club. And there was more fire after La Voz de Galicia reported that one of the captains was asking for a bonus in order to win the derby, the incident took place during the Christmas meal and it was starred by Pedro Mosquera, though president Tino Fernández and the same player rested importance to it.

Now coach Cristóbal Parralo tries to put together all the pieces just when Depor are about to face the toughest part of the calendar. For the game he was planning in switching the draw into a 4-4-2 with three strikers playing at the same time, but Lucas Pérez is a last-minute casualty due to a dorsalgia (pain in the spine). Now he will keep playing with a 4-2-3-1 formation and with Emre Çolak in the playmaking function.

Team news: Two last-minute casualties at Deportivo, Lucas Pérez is missing the game due to a dorsalgia, while Fede Valverde is sick. Fede Cartabia is the other player at the injury room. Parralo recalled wingers Bruno Gama and Zakaria Bakkali, while the players out for tactical reasons are Tytoń, Saúl Fernández and Gerard Valentín. Centre-back Fabian Schär is suspended. Fabril’s centre-back Steve One was picked for the game.

Man to watch: Striker Florin Andone. The Romanian was unhappy for not having minutes, since the arrival of Parralo he has only made four appearances as a substitute, and he scored a goal in the last game facing RC Celta. Now he’s having the opportunity to appear at the starting lineup (the last time he was a starter was in October: 0-0 draw at SD Eibar).

Picked players: (18) Rubén Martínez, Pantilimon (goalkeepers); Juanfran, Albentosa, Sidnei, Steve One, Luisinho, Navarro (defenders); Borges, Guilherme, Pedro Mosquera, Çolak, Carles Gil, Bakkali, Bruno Gama (midfielders); Adrián, Andone & Borja Valle (attackers).

Predicted lineup: (4-2-3-1) Rubén Martínez – Juanfran, Albentosa, Sidnei, Luisinho – Guilherme, Borges – Carles Gil, Çolak, Adrián - Andone.

It’s another good season for Villarreal CF, with the team still fighting in three fronts after four months of competition, but coach Javi Calleja is unrested as he has been forced to assemble a puzzle in each game since a while ago. The large list of casualties due to injuries has forced him to constantly call lads from the B squad in order not only to fill gaps, but also to play the games.

Now he loses top-scorer Cedrick Bakambu, who has been transferred to China for the club’s record fee of €40 million. The Congolese scored 9 of the 24 goals netted in liga (38% of the total) and now Calleja has to start all over again. For the game against Depor there are seven casualties, so the coach will have to put a lad from the B squad, midfielder Daniel Raba, as a starter, and will also allow the presence of Enes Ünal, a recalled player coming from Levante UD.

Team news: Left-back Jaume Costa and centre-back Daniele Bonera are recovered from their knocks and entered the roster for the game, the first one is expected to start, but playmaker Roberto Soriano is off as he wasn’t ready in time after picking a knee sprain.

With Soriano out, the list of casualties raises to seven men with the six previous cases: centre midfielder Manu Trigueros (suspension), keeper Andrés Fernández (knee ligaments), centre-back Rubén Semedo (muscle), centre midfielder Bruno Soriano (tibia), plus strikers Nicola Sansone (muscle) and Cédric Bakambu (transfer operation). Calleja is picking three lads from the academy in order to fill the gaps: midfielders Daniel Raba, Imanol García and Víctor Moya ‘Chuca’.

Man to watch: Striker Carlos Bacca. With Bakambu out, the Colombian is called to be the main reference in attack. The good news is that he has been responding lately as in his last ten appearances for all competitions he scored four goals and provided three assists.

Picked players: (18) Sergio Asenjo, Barbosa (goalkeepers); Mario Gaspar, Álvaro González, Marín, Víctor Ruiz, Jaume Costa, Rukavina, Bonera (defenders); Cheryshev. Pablo Fornals. Samu Castillejo, Rodrigo, Raba, Imanol, Chuca (midfielders); Bacca & Enes Ünal (attackers).

Predicted lineup: (4-3-1-2) Asenjo – Gaspar, Álvaro González, Víctor Ruíz, Jaume – Fornals, Rodrigo, Castillejo – Raba – Ünal, Bacca.
