Midfielder Álex Bergantiños will play at Depor for the season 2018/19; he returns home after a loan spell at Sporting Gijón.

Álex Bergantiños returns to Deportivo. The midfielder will play with the team in the next Segunda season after ending his loan spell with Sporting Gijón. There was uncertainty as the midfielder had a clause that was allowing to stay with the Asturians for one more season, but in the end he decided to return home.

The loans have been the common thing for the Galician player; up to five times he had to go out in order to have minutes: Xérez CD (2008/09 & 2009/10), Granada CF (2010), Gimnástic Tarragona (2011) and Sporting Gijón (2017/18).

Álex is already 32 and has been important in the previous two seasons with the team at Segunda. In the season 2011/12 he broke the record of minutes at the club (3,589) as he played in the 42 matches in the league season, for the campaign 2013/14 he was again a fixed starter and completed 37 league appearances.

In the season that just ended Bergantiños was considered as one of the best players at Sporting, he played in 36 of the 42 league matches, though later his team missed the train of the promotion after been eliminated by CD Numancia in the playoffs.

Carmelo Del Pozo mentioned before that, for him, Álex is an important choice in his plans, now he returns in order to recover some of the identity lost in the campaign that meant the latest relegation of the Galician outfit.

This is the third reinforcement for Deportivo ahead of the season 2018/19 after the signings of goalkeeper Dani Giménez and left-back Sebastián Dubarbier.
