Right-back defender David Simón has signed for Depor after rescinding with UD Las Palmas. He signed a two-year contract.

David Simón Rodríguez is the most recent addition for Deportivo, the right-back rescinded his contract with UD Las Palmas and passed the medicals on Friday, then the club announced that he is signing a two-year contract.

David Simón is not the “classical” product of UD Las Palmas academy, because he made the transition between the B squad and the first team until he was 25. Paco Herrera allowed his debut on the Segunda campaign 2014/15 and he was one of the best players in the league and clinched the promotion to Primera.

He then was a fixed starter with both Paco Herrera and Quique Setíen when the team played at the elite (27 appearances in the season 2015/16).  But then the Canarian started to lose the spot before Pedro Bigas. So, he made another 27 liga appearances, but this time distribute in the next two seasons (2016/17 & 2017/18).

The Canarian club wanted to keep the player ahead of this season, but he decided to leave arguing that “there’s too much pressure” over the local players. That’s why he rescinded his contract. Simón is considered a an offensive full-back, he likes to join the attack and lately was having problems defending his side, a very similar profile to Juanfran.

This is the is ninth reinforcement for Deportivo ahead of the season 2018/19 after the signings of goalkeeper Dani Giménez, left-back Sebastián Dubarbier, centre-back Pablo Mari, winger Pedro Sánchez, strikers Christian Santos and Quique González, plus the return of midfielder Álex Bergantiños.
