The first goalless draw of the season was an entertaining game in which any side could have won. Carles Gil guided a team that forgave too much.

Coach Natxo González chose to play with Didier Moreno instead of Vicente Gómez, while the absences of Domingos Duarte and David Simón were covered with Michelle Somma and Eneko Bóveda.

Dani Giménez covered the goal, Bóveda performed at the right-back position, the left was for Saúl García.  The central positions were for Somma and Pablo Mari. The trio at midfield was composed by Didier Moreno, Pedro Mosquera and Edu Expósito. Carles Gil was the playmaker, while Carlos Fernández and Quique González were the centre forwards.

At Rayo Majadahonda, the big surprise was that coach Antonio Iriondo left Aitor García on the bench, instead he was playing with Toni Martínez and Aitor Ruibal in attack. Also, Héctor Verdés went directly into the defence after surpassing an injury.

Cold environment and fog, it was what Deportivo and Rayo Majadahonda met at Cerro del Espino. But the game was entertaining, because both sides were trying to practice good football. The problem is that the chances to score arrived until the final minutes of the first part.

Depor started the game controlling the ball possession, but at the same time unable to create scoring opportunities. The defence was well placed, but later the transitions into offensive positions were failing. The first chance to score came at minute 18, a cross from Saúl was poorly cleared by the defence and Carlos Fernández headed it on target, local goalie Basilio made the save.

At minute 26, a cross from Carles Gil didn’t find a receiver. The locals made a step forward, but Depor continues to be the team bringing better feelings. What the visiting side lacked was a better connection in attack, because Saúl and Carles Gil were constantly penetrating by the left, but later the attackers were missing the passes.

Quique González had a new chance at minute 38, the striker collected a cross from Carles Gil, but he missed the target. The final minutes saw the best of Rayo Majadahonda, at minute 40 a lateral free-kick ended with Iza assisting Aitor Ruibal inside the area, and the striker missed the target when he was alone before Dani Giménez.

At the last minute of the first part, the visiting keeper made a great save before the header of Toni Martínez after a cross of Francisco Varela. In the middle of both plays, Depor protested a penalty after Carlos Fernández was blocked inside the area (43’).

Entertaining half, the goals were missed, but the chances to score showed up. Depor had several and also suffered with the entry of Aitor García. Carlos Fernández and Edu Expósito were replaced due to muscle problems.

The final part started in the same way than the fist, because Depor were insisting on the left flank with Saúl and Carles Gil. One of their crosses was cleared by Basilio before the arrival of Didier Moreno (50’).

At minute 54, Carlos Fernández collected a cross of Didier Moreno, but his curved shot missed the target. Two minutes later Bóveda headed a lateral free-kick and his attempt went over the crossbar.

Then the game became exciting. Edu Expósito should have scored with a shot that was saved by Basilio and after been assisted by Carlos Fernández (61’); in the counterattack Aitor García made a long run and ended releasing a curved shot that was brilliantly saved by Dani Giménez.

Rayo Majadahonda became dangerous with Aitor García on the pitch and, after three straight corners, a cross from Ernesto Galán ended hitting the post.  Then Depor made two changes, Carlos Fernándezpicked a muscle problem and was replaced by Borja Valle, while Vicente Gómez entered for Didier Moreno.

Depor forgave too much and also suffered, because each time it was having a chance to score then the rival was also having one. Borja Valle should have scored at minute 75, he collected a cross from Quique González and somehow his deflection went close to the far post. One minute later he scored after connecting a cross from the left, but it was ruled out for offside.

Edu Expósito also suffered a muscle problem and was replaced by Gerard Valentín. The locals were better within the final ten minutes and harassed Depor, their best chance in this frame was a new attempt by Aitor García after a corner-kick that was deflected by Dani Giménez (88’). The last chance for the locals was a lateral free-kick in which the attempt of Ernesto Galán was cleared by Pablo Mari (90+3’).

Deportivo chained a new draw on the road, this time against a rival that also played with an offensive view. Ironically the game ended scoreless despite been attractive. The Galicians forgave too much and later were saved thanks to Dani Giménez. Carles Gil and Saúl García made a great effort, while Pablo Mari commanded the defence.

Los Blanquiazules extended their unbeaten streak to eleven games and will remain second at the standings. The next game is the visit of CD Numancia to the Riazor (Saturday, 13h00 CET).
