Two signings were made during deadline day. Nahuel Leiva arrived loaned in order to replace Carles Gil, while veteran Iñigo López is a zero-cost transfer in order to reinforce the defence.

The first winter signing announced by Deportivo was right winger Matías Nahuel Leiva. The club announced that he is coming loaned from Villarreal CF, the deal is until the end of the season, but the Galician club has the option to extend the loan or to buy the player at the end of the period. This should be interpreted as the substitute of Carles Gil.

The Argentine player arrived to Spain when he was 14 (he is currently 22); he was playing for Villarreal B since 2012 and managed to make 20 Primera appearances during the campaign 2015/16, but he didn’t convince the coaching staff of Marcelino Toral and was going to start a period of loan spells without too many luck.

He was loaned to Real Betis for two years and ahead of the season 2016/17, but after only 17 Primera appearances he left the club in January of 2018 in order to join Barcelona B at Segunda, he played 18 games and scored 5 goals with the Catalans, but it wasn’t enough to avoid relegation. For the present season he was loaned to Olympiacos FC, and the bad luck continued there after only making three appearances with the Red-Whites.

The second signing of the day was confirmed only thirty minutes after the first one. It’s centre-back Iñigo López Montaña. He arrives as a free agent after rescinding with Extremadura UD and signs a deal lasting until the end of the campaign.  The signing is strange as Depor already have four centre-backs, but it should be interpreted as Eneko Boveda is passing to be the substitute of David Simón after the exit of Gerard Valentín.

Íñigo López is a 36-year-old veteran with a career of 351 official games, after leaving Atletico B he became a hero with AD Alcorcón as he earned the promotion to Segunda A during the season 2009/10, one year later he was earning the promotion to Primera playing for Granada CF.

Between 2011 and 2015 he completed 81 appearances at the elite playing for Granada CF and RC Celta, then the Logroño-born defender signed for SD Huesca at Segunda, he was pretty active in his first two seasons, but in the third, the one of the promotion to Primera (201718), he only played four matches, then he left the Aragonian club and signed for Extremadura UD for the present season, and once again he didn’t play too often, reason why he rescinded at the start of this week.  So, Iñigo López arrives after only playing 11 games within the last year and a half.
