CA Osasuna is the first promoted club to the elite after the defeat of Albacete. Gimnástic Tarragona are joining Córdoba CF in the demotion to Segunda B. Depor in deep trouble.

Matchday 39 witnessed the first promotion to Primera División for the season 2019/20. It’s CA Osasuna, side that didn’t pass from a goalless draw at Cádiz CF and that had to wait until Monday to see Granada CF beating Albacete Balompié on the road (0-1).

That’s also a huge step for Granada CF, because the Andalusians only need now one more victory in order to join the train to the elite. It means that the race to Primera is practically only expecting to know the names of participants in the playoff.

RCD Mallorca are close to secure their participation on it after a suffered 1-0 win over UD Almeria, their goal came at minute 75. Málaga CF added the points of FC Reus and almost secured the spot too, because Deportivo failed again.

Los Blanquiazules lost the derby at CD Lugo (0-1) and are now two points behind the sixth place. The other side with real options of reaching the playoff is Real Oviedo, the Asturians clinched a 1-0 win over Real Oviedo and are now one point behind Depor.

The situation at the top of the standings:

place team points GF GA
1 Osasuna 78 53 33
2 Granada 74 48 25
3 Albacete 68 51 33
4 Mallorca 67 52 35
5 Málaga 65 43 29
6 Cádiz 63 52 33
7 Deportivo 61 47 32
8 Oviedo 60 43 42

Meanwhile, Gimnástic Tarragona are already at Segunda B. They starred the crazy game between sides going to the third tier. Córdoba CF were leading 4-0 by minute 61 and the game ended 4-3. Therefore there’s only one spot in the sad train that will join Córdoba, Gimnástic and Reus.

Rayo Majadahonda is now in the mess after a defeat at UD Las Palmas (3-2), it was a dramatic game as the Canarians secured the permanence after been trailing 1-2 by minute 71 and with a goal scored in the added time.

CD Tenerife remain in trouble as they were trashed by Elche CF (3-0) in the debut of coach Luis César Sampedro. Only five clubs are involved in the race to avoid demotion after Real Zaragoza beat Sporting Gijón (4-2). They are nine points above Rayo Majadahonda, but the Aragonians won the series with the Madrilenians.

One of the sides that remain in danger is Extremadura UD, but they are almost saved after returning to winning ways at AD Alcorcón (0-1).  Los Extremeños are now eight points above the pit with three games remaining.

The situation at the bottom of the standings:

place team points GF GA
17 Lugo 44 42 50
18 Tenerife 43 37 49
19 Majadahonda 41 42 57
20 Córdoba 33 46 74
21 Nástic 31 25 59
22 Reus 0 16 45

There are three key games during the weekend. Albacete Balompié visit Sporting Gijón on Saturday, if they lose or draw, then Granada CF are promoted to Primera without playing. If they win, then the Andalusians will need to defeat Cádiz CF on Sunday. That last game is very important to Deportivo as, if Cádiz lose, then the Galicians will be back in the playoff zone if they beat RCD Mallorca on Monday.

The third key game is the home meeting of Rayo Majadahonda hosting Córdoba CF; the Madrilenians need the victory in order to increase their survival chances. If not it will mean the salvation for Extremadura UD and CD Numancia, the latter is adding the points of the game with FC Reus.

The matchday is completed with other six games: Málaga CF Vs. Real Zaragoza; CA Osasuna Vs. UD Las Palmas; UD Almería Vs. AD Alcorcón; Gimnástic Tarragona Vs. Elche CF; CD Tenerife Vs. Elche CF & Extremadura UD Vs. CD Lugo.
