It was a busy day for Deportivo in the last hours of the summer window. The club signed five reinforcements: one centre-back, one left back and three attackers.

Deportivo announced five signings on deadline day. Left-back Salva Ruiz arrives transferred from Valencia CF for an undisclosed fee and signs a three-year deal with the Galicians. The other four players arrives on loan spells: right winger Saša Jovanovic from Al-Fateh, Centre-back Javier Montero from Atlético Madrid, attacker/left winger Víctor Mollejo also from Atletico Madrid, and Attacker/left winger Beto da Silva loaned from Tigres de Monterey (reported as part of the agreement for Rolan).

Saša Jovanovic: The Serbian is a forward that has played as a winger in Spain. He started his career at his local side FC Kolubara playing as a centre forward, he wasn’t a prolific scorer for five years, but then he signed for FK Mladost Lučani, one of the top clubs at the Serbian SuperLiga, over there he scored 23 goals in 96 official appearances,

For the campaign 2016/17 he was already performing as a winger on both sides and scored 7 goals and provided 5 assists in 31 league meetings, his team earned a spot at the Europa League and then he was transferred to Córdoba CF.

The operation was around the €750,000 and Jovanovic played for the first time out of Serbia and at the second tier of Spain, but it wasn’t a good experience for him. Coach Sandoval gave him a few chances and later preferred the option of Curro Torres, in the end the Serbian winger only played in 49 Segunda games after one and a half season, he left the club in January of 2018 and singed for Saudi Arabian club Al-Fateh. On the current Professional League, he has only played two games (the season just started).

Victor Mollejo: He is an 18-year-old attacker that can perform on the left wing. He joined the academy of Atlético Madrid when he was 12; on the season 2017/18 he was part of the Juvenil A team that won the Champions Cup and the Copa Del Rey Juveniles.  That same season he started to train with the first team directed by Simeone.

On the season 2018/19, Mollejo continued with his impressive progression and joined the B squad competing at Segunda División B and also played the UEFA Youth League. At Segunda B he scored 6 goals in 30 appearances, and in the Youth League he scored 6 times in 8 appearances with an Atlético that was eliminated by Real Madrid in the knockout stage.

That same campaign he was able to debut at Primera División entering as a substitute in the games against SD Huesca, Getafe CF, RC Celta and Levante UD. To round his performance, he debuted with the U-19 squad of Spain and scored one goal in 8 matches. Atlético were so impressed with him that, before joining Depor, he signed a contract extension lasting until 2024.

Francisco Montero: He is an 20-year-old left-footed centre-back that, like the case of Mollejo, was part of the Juvenil A team of Atlético that won the Champions Cup and the Copa del Rey Juveniles during the season 2017/18. And last season turned to be really complete for him as he not only played at Segunda B (19 appearances) and the UEFA Youth League (4), but also managed to play with the first team in liga, Copa and even the UEFA Champions League.

What happened is that Simeone allowed his debut in Copa against Sant Andreu, and the coach liked his performance so much that, six days later, he was called again after José María Giménez got injured, so the Sevillan defender ended playing 9 games in liga plus two UEFA Champions League encounters (Borussia Dortmund and Club Brugge)

Salva Ruiz: He is a left-back defender that has spent his whole life linked to Valencia CF; he debuted with the B squad in 2011 been 16 and, until 2018, he had completed 98 appearances with Valencia Mestalla performing at Segunda B.

What happened to him later was that they never trusted him for the first squad. He only made one appearance with the first team and was for the Copa game with Llagostera (3-1, November 28, 2012). So, he spent the time in loan spells searching for experience.

But these loans didn’t work out until recently, because first he was at CD Tenerife for the Segunda campaign 2013/14, but he was only 18 and coach Álvaro Cervera only gave him 5 games, similar was the situation at Granada CF, club where he only played two Primera games during the campaign 2015/16.

To make things tougher, Ruiz was diagnosed with aplastic anemia and spent almost two years without playing. In the winter window of 2018, he signed a contract with RCD Mallorca, though his link with Valencia CF still active through a re-buy option.

It was there where Ruiz, now 22, finally had a chance to shine. He played 7 games in the remaining of the Segunda B season 2017/18, and last campaign made 19 appearances in the team that clinched the promotion to Primera. Pervis Estupiñán was the normal starter at the left side of the defence, but Ruiz left a positive impression, to the point that Valencia activated their buy-back clause and the defender signed a new contract lasting until June of 2023. But since they were no counting with him then the player sought for the door out.

Beto da Silva: He is a 22-year-old attacker that can also perform on the left wing. He is Peruvian, but his family moved to Brazil and started his career at Grêmio in 2010, he played for Sporting Cristal in his country and was signed by PSV when he was 19. He immediately joined Jong PSV (Eerste Divisie)and had a positive performance, though he wasn’t able to succeed at PSV first team.

Then da Silva returned to Grêmio and signed a four-year deal, but the injuries started to affect him and barely played, though later he was loaned to Argentinos Junior and finally was transferred to Tigres UANL in 2018. He spent the last six months loaned at other Mexican club, Lobos BUAP.

The five signings on deadline day join the previous nine signings, therefore the club has made fourteen incorporations ahead of the campaign 2019/20. The previous reinforcements that joined the club are goalkeeper Koke Vegas, centre-back Vassilios Lampropoulos, left-back Luis Ruiz, centre midfielder Peru Nolaskoain, winger Borja Galán, playmakers Ager Aketxe and Gaku Shibasaki, plus strikers Mamadou Koné and Samuele Longo.
