MATCHDAY 17: WINNERS AND LOSERS

UD Almeria and SD Huesca advance to higher grounds in the battle for promotion, while Real Oviedo and Extremadura UD sank in relegation. Depor remain living the nightmare of not winning.

Matchday 17 witnessed interesting results that left winners and losers at both sides of the standings. Cádiz CF suffered as it had to come from behind, but ended defeating CD Lugo at home (2-1). The winners in the race for promotion were UD Almería, SD Huesca and Real Zaragoza. The Andalusians recovered the second position after a 2-0 win over CD Numancia, while the Aragonians are now the third place after a 2-0 success over SD Ponferradina.

In the case of Real Zaragoza, they entered into the promotion zone after a great 0-1 win at Rayo Vallecano. The loser in the race for the playoffs was Fuenlabrada CF, the Madrilenians lost two positions after losing 2-0 at Girona FC; precisely that victory allowed the Catalans to reach the fifth position.

Albacete Balompié is another loser among the first places. They were surprised at home by CD Mirandés in game in which the goals came within the first 20 minutes (1-2). Los Manchegos have now lost three of their last four games and are now out of the promotion zone.

The big winner in the race for survival was Racing Santander, the Cantabrians trashed Extremadura UD (3-0) and left the pit for the first time since matchday 10. They pulled down Extremadura UD and another losing side was Real Oviedo, the Asturians lost at UD Las Palmas (3-1) and are penultimate now.

Meanwhile, Deportivo remain living a catastrophic season after chaining 16 games without winning, this time they could only add a point at home facing AD Alcorcón (0-0). Sporting Gijón lost at home against CD Tenerife (0-2), and coach José Alberto López could be sacked next weekend. Málaga CF are also in relegation, but they starred the miracle of the matchday. They were losing 1-3 by minute 78 hosting Elche, and pulled two late goals to rescue a point (3-3).

MATCHDAY 18: BIG GAMES AT THE TOP
There are big games with the top teams facing each other. Leaders Cádiz CF visit fourth place Fuenlabrada CF, while sixth place Real Zaragoza entertaining fifth position Girona FC. Another game at the top is the visit of third position SD Huesca to seventh spot AD Alcorcón.

Meanwhile, Deportivo will live the Galician derby of Segunda visiting CD Lugo. The matchday is completed with other seven games: CD Numancia Vs. Málaga CF; CD Mirandés Vs. Sporting Gijón; SD Ponferradina Vs. Albacete Balompié; CD Tenerife Vs. UD Almería; Real Oviedo Vs. Rayo Vallecano; Elche CF Vs. Racing Santander & Extremadura UD Vs. UD Las Palmas.
