The second winter signing of Deportivo is Sabin Merino. The striker arrives in order to reinforce an attacking line that has bene poor, but his numbers had been disappointing too.

Deportivo announced on Tuesday the second signing for the winter window. Itís Sabin Merino, a 28-year-old striker that signs until 2022 after failing to convince with CD Leganťs. The club didnít inform if itís paying a transfer or not, only that the striker signs until 2022 and itís known that thereís a release clause at the end of the season in case of relegation to Segunda B. He joined the trainings on Tuesday and might debut against Racing Santander.

Sabin Merino is an attacker that can perform as a centre forward or left winger. He is a product of the academy at Athletic Club. With the B squad, Bilbao Athletic, he managed to make 75 appearances at Segunda B and scored 20 goals.

His breakthrough season, and the only one in which he was able to explode, was the campaign 2014/15, at the time he scored 17 goals in 36 Segunda B games, which allowed his team to clinch the promotion to Segunda A and also gained him a spot at the first team.

But since then his career has been on hold. He had an acceptable debuting season at Primera making 22 appearances and scoring 5 goals (season 2015/16), he also made his European debut and scored his only goals in the Europa League facing éilina and Olympique de Marseille, the latter in the last-16 round (February 25, 2016) and that granted the qualification to the next round.

The problem is that his career at Athletic Club started to fade away since then. The presence of players like Muniain, Aduriz and IŮaki Williams closed the doors to him, and he also suffered injuries [he needed a groin surgery and had a problem in one shoulder], so for the season 2018/19, he didnít make any appearance in liga during the first round.

In the end he was loaned to CD Leganťs, but the situation of the Basque attacker just barely improved. He made 12 appearances and didnít score goals and neither convinced with his performance. Athletic didnít renew his contract and he stayed at the Madrilenian club, and he has only made two league appearances in the present campaign in a team thatís struggling to survive at the elite.

Now Merino lands at Depor trying to regain his numbers from Bilbao Athletic. His last goal in an official game was scored with the first team of Athletic Club (23/Oct/2016 Vs. Real Madrid in liga). This is the second signing of Depor in the winter window after the one of Emre «olak.
