Depor are out of relegation after clinching a fifth straight victory. The Galicians had the best opportunities in the first part, and in the second they held the advantage. Big game by Dani Giménez, who saved a penalty.

Coach Fernando Vázquez switched the system as Deportivo mutated into a 4-2-3-1 draw. Uche Agbo made his debut, while Emre Çolak was a starter. Javi Montero was moved into the left side of the defence.

Dani Giménez was the goalkeeper, Eneko Bóveda played on the right side of the defence. The left was for Montero, while the central positions were covered by Mujaid Sadick and Michelle Somma. Gaku Shibasaki joined Uche Agbo at midfield, Ager Aketxe performed attached into the right wing, Víctor Mollejo attacked from the left, Emre Çolak was the playmaker and Sabin Merino was the centre forward.

At Albacete Balompié, coach Luis Miguel Ramis presented several novelties. Diego Caballo was a starter. Chema Núñez was left on the bench, while the trident in attack was composed by Álvaro Jiménez, Román Zozulya and Dani Ojeda.

Effective first part by Deportivo. The game was equal, but the Galicians had the best opportunities and seized one of them through an in-form Sabin Merino. Later the locals pushed and were close to equalizer within the final minutes.

The game started with a Depor that were having doubts. The locals were putting a high pressure and the Galicians had problems to move forward. The first approximation in the game was a mid-distance shot of Mikel Mesa that was blocked by Dani Giménez (3’).

Then the game became stuck, both teams were having long ball possessions, but the ball wasn’t passing from midfield territory. The first big chance to score came at minute 19, Dani Ojeda found the ball outside the area and his low shot was deflected to corner-kick by Dani Giménez.

Depor replied with a lateral free-kick of Aketxe that Montero couldn’t deflect at the box and later local keeper Tomeu Nadal cleared the ball to corner-kick (22’).  Then Depor had a triple chance after a corner-kick, Nadal saved his team up to two opportunities, first against the shot  of Aketxe, later against the header of Somma, and the plays ended with a blocked shot by Montero (29’).

And then Deportivo scored the first goal in the game. Bóveda released a cross from the right, somehow a defender tried to clear the danger and the ball hit the body of Sabin Merino and it turned into a volley that was impossible for Nadal.

Albacete tried to equalize within the final minutes and the locals had three opportunities, first Dani Giménez saved the team against the header of Silvestre after a corner-kick (43’), one minute later the goalie saved Depor again, this time it was a double save, first against the crossed shot of Caballo and later against the attempt of Alberto Benito.

Depor lost a lot of things in the second part. The midfielders were losing the ball and the attackers weren’t creating anything, so the Galicians had to bear the local pressure. Albacete missed a penalty after a great game by Dani Giménez.

The final part started with a big error by Depor. Çolak and Montero got confused and no one intercepted a loose ball at the edge of the area, it ended reaching the path of Álvaro Jiménez, who released a low cross that Dani Ojeda sent out (47’).

The locals started to push and Dani Giménez became a hero, he first saved a complicate deflection by Mikel Mesa, then Gaku committed a penalty as he tried to clear the ball, but the Japanese player touched with the hand, and Depor’s goalie was going to deflect the penalty shot by Dani Ojeda (55’).

Uche Agbo got injured and he was replaced by Álex Bergantiños, but the visiting side continued suffering against the local attacks. At minute 58, Román Zozulya found the ball inside the area, but he missed the target. The Ukrainian attacker was pretty active in the game, but this was his only chance in the game.

Luis Ruiz was the second substitution as he entered for Mollejo. The winger was having problems covering the left side and he was already booked, so Fernando Vázquez preferred to reinforce the defence.

The final substitution was the entry of Claudio Beauvue for Emre Çolak, and the ex-Celta had the big chance to define the game. After three straight corners for the locals, Dani Giménez got the ball and unleashed the counterattack, Sabin Merino assisted Beauvue from midfield, but the attacker shot into the body of Nadal (77’). That was the lonely shot of Depor in the second part.

There was suffering within the final ten minutes, but more for the narrow score than for what Albacete did. The locals had the only chance in this frame through Álvaro Jiménez, who misses the target after collecting a low cross from Zozulya.

It cannot be said that Depor deserved the victory, but it was the most effective team in this game. The Galicians had the best chances in the first part, and seized one of them, In the second part the locals pushed hard and had some clear chances, but Dani Giménez was there to make six saves, including blocking a penalty.

The victory is the fifth straight success for Los Blanquiazules, they are leaving the drop zone for the first time since matchday 8. The next game is the visit of UD Las Palmas to the Riazor (Saturday, 18h15 CET).
