Portuguese Rui Costa is the eighth signing of Deportivo ahead of the season 2020/21. He played at AD Alcorcón on last season.

Deportivo announced on Friday the signing of Rui Pedro Silva Costa. The Portuguese striker is 24 and pens a two-year contract with the Galician club. He is coming from FC Porto, club that will keep part of his transfer rights (the percentage wasn’t specified).

Rui Costa is a product of the academy at FC Famalicão. He had explosive seasons in the second tier, though later he missed opportunities at the elite. With Varzim SC, he netted 14 goals in 41 presentations at Segunda Liga (2016/17), then he scored 12 goals in 19 games with Famalicão (2018/19).

These presentations allowed him to sign a three-year contract with FC Porto, but later he only made 20 appearances with the B squad (3 goals scored), and then he made the jump to Spain after signing a loan contract with AD Alcorcón ahead of the season 2019/20.

At AD Alcorcón, Costa was used as the reference in attack in a 4-4-2 scheme playing above Stoichkov. He made 22 appearances at Liga Adelante, scored 3 goals and provided 2 assists. It wasn’t enough to impress FC Porto and now he had to search for a new destiny. Costa has been described as a striker with the ability to open the defensive lines with his moves and with the predilection of attempting long-distance shots.

Rui Costa is the eighth signing of Depor ahead of the season 2020/21. Early on Friday the club also announced the arrival of left winger Ignacio González. And previously Deportivo signed goalkeepers Carlos Abad and Lucho García, centre-back Borja Granero, left-back Héctor Hernández, midfielder Celso Borges, plus left winger José Alonso Lara.
