Debut in liga for Deportivo, 3,000 attendants will watch the game at the Riazor with Fernando Vázquez missing two of his four strikers.

New beginning for Deportivo, not in the league the Galicians wanted after all the mess of last season, but at least the horizon is clear after all the doubts had during the summer: The promotion back to Segunda A. But the team competes in an unknown league having zero margin for errors due to the competitive format.

That’s why each game is vital, and the first round begins with the visit of Salamanca CF UDS to the Riazor (Sunday, 19h00 CET). For the first time in eight months, public will be allowed at the Riazor, though only 3,000 attendants after the club was requesting 7,800.

Coach Fernando Vázquez remains as the head coach after the solid numbers in the second round. This time he has a new squad (21 players), with only seven players staying after the relegation from Segunda A.

For the game, the coach is having three confirmed casualties, two of them are from the striking zone: Rui Costa and Diego Rolan. The Portuguese attacker missed the last two weeks on the pre-season due to a muscle problem, he trained with the team on Friday, but won’t be risked. In the case of the Uruguayan attacker, he hasn’t completed the paperwork in order to play in Spain, actually he will be in Uruguay when the game starts (part of the paperwork in order to get the work permission).

Meanwhile, left-back Héctor Hernández is the other casualty for the game. He picked a groin injury during the week and is pending of undergoing medicals. The coach also had problems due to the lack of form, several of his players aren’t at the top, like the case of winger Borja Galán, who was unable to play any minute during the pre-season friendly games.

The rival in the opening matchday is Salamanca CF UDS, a team in a similar situation than Deportivo in the sense of leaving doubts during the pre-season after losing the last game before the debut (1-3 Vs. as Rozas). Also, because several players are out of shape, in their case 12 of the 20 players inscribed are foreigners and joined the team late. The best example is midfielder Jorge Pedra, who just arrived this week. He won’t play against Deportivo.

It has been also rumored that several of the 12 foreigners don’t have a work permission and could end up missing the visit to the Riazor, but the club hasn’t clarified the issue yet. Coach Sergio Egea also has injury problems that are affecting the planning of the game, the main one is striker Luis Madrigal, the Mexican player suffered a knee sprain during the week and is out for ten days.

This will force Egea to modify the 4-4-2 scheme, probably he will have to switch into a 4-5-1 with ex-Fabril Uxio d Pena as the only reference in attack. At least the coach is recovering Jonathan Lacerda, the Uruguayan centre-back missed the major part of the pre-season due to muscle issues.
